Some very good news for fans of the Rubettes and this website. 3 more newsletters have re-surfaced to be included here. Plus... several much better copies of existing newsletters.

These will all be reproduced here over the next few weeks courtesy of Simon Harris who kept them safe all these years and has very kindly sent them to me to scan and upload here. A big thank you to Simon I'm sure you'll all agree :)

Simon also sent a scan of his ticket and letter for the Rubettes appearance on the BBC's Pop At The Mill programme.
They have been added on this page.

More Rubettes 'Top Of The Pops' appearance have been discovered. It seems a handful of people with very early domestic video recorders taped the show and kept hold of copies for decades.

One edition of Top Of the Pops came from home recording collection of the famous British comic actor Dick Emery. More info on the TOTP page.

The TOTP page has been updated following the discovery of a picture taken from a 'wiped' appearance of 'Juke Box Jive'. Visit the TOTP section here to find out the story behind the photo.

The 'eagle-eyed' amongst you will notice a new shiny logo at the top of the page

There are numerous Rubettes Fan Pages over in facebook.

I hear from original fan club secretary Chrissie again frequently. She really enjoyed looking through the website and said that ""it takes me right back to the time and brings up memories I had forgotten I had".

There continues to be a little flurry of visitors to the site. Thanks for all the positive comments and welcome aboard.

The drawing at the top of this page was featured on the cover of Issue 17 and was created by a lady called Pat Alderton in Bournemouth 1977.

A major overhaul of the 70's Fan Club website was required as there just wasn't enough space to fit everything into one site. It is now in 4 separate parts which can be accessed by clicking on the '70s Fan Club Sections' link in the left hand side of the screen.

While I was going through stuff it became clear there were, in fact, 36 issues published.'

However, there is also 'The Last Word', a letter sent out some time after the fan club closed, which recently re-surfaced and is published here for the first time. It was absolutely the last thing sent out by Chrissie in early 1981 on behalf of the band making 37 in all.

I've also edited a few of the other pages as new information continues to emerge.

Stay tuned,

Mark

Top Of The Pops: New Page.

The most popular music programme for many years in the UK was 'Top Of The Pops'. An appearance on the weekly show guaranteed a hit more often than not.

It seems the BBC were unaware of a potential goldmine as a huge number of shows were erased.

The Rubettes featured on the show 22 times and, although many of their performances have been wiped, most songs survived. (Currently only 'Little Darling' is missing. 'Under One Roof' was never performed on the show after the band was controversially removed when the subject matter of the song became known. Both of the Dutch Top Pop appearances of those songs survive and are easily found on youtube).

On the new TOTP page we intend to have a selection of photos featuring the band when they appeared on the show.

Pop At The Mill:

There are now 5 pictures of the band performing a live set on TV back in summer 1977. The other 4 can be found in the Issue 19 section of the 70sfanclub19-27 website.

The jpeg above shows all 4 members of the band in 1977 playing 'Great Be The Nation' from the 'Sometime In Oldchurch' album which was due to be released at that time.

You can just see me (arrowed) in the bottom right corner of the picture, wearing a white top.

And here's a ticket and accompanying letter for the event. Supplied by Simon Harris.
